Safety is paramount, so it’s vital that our display fireworks are well supported, so we have developed our unique freestanding supporting equipment for Roman candle fans and Aerial Star Shell mortar tubes. This means that we do not have to dig holes, bury pegs or make other destructive changes to where we work. Hard, flat surfaces are best but we are equally at home on grass.

There are four basic ingredients essential for a good firework display:-
Shape
Movement
Colour
Sound

All four of these combined skillfully will give the best and most cost effective display.

A firework artist has:
A canvas – a (hopefully clear) black sky
“Paints” – coloured fireworks
Sounds and effects – whistles, hums, crackles, spinners, bangs etc
Imagination – to add movement and create shapes and patterns.

Firework Display Specialists are registered with HM Government’s Health & Safety Executive as Firework Manufacturers so we are able to use selections of some of the following pyrotechnic devices –

Roman Candles - Click here to read about Roman Candles for a comprehensive description
We use small, medium and large candles.

Small Calibre Roman Candles give continuity – gaps or pauses in a busy display, even for just a few seconds, are best avoided, so we use small calibre Roman candles in “bouquets” or fans, fused to fire together, creating a wide, solid curtain of colour and movement, up to 100 feet high.
Careful time fusing ensures that as one set of candles ends another starts – hopefully without a gap!

We offer a choice of some or all of the following:

  • Brilliant Red stars with gold glittering tails
  • Bright Green stars
  • Golden Shimmering stars
  • Silver Tailed Comets
  • Red Spinners with Silver
  • Green Spinners with Silver
  • Blue Stars
  • Gold Crackling Stars
  • Purple Stars
  • Silver Whistling Serpents
  • Pink Stars
  • Orange Stars

Larger Calibre Roman Candles
These can also fire solid stars but there’s more room to include mini shells containing “effects” like crackers, serpents, silver spinners, whistles etc.

Aerial Shells – these are the most popular and beautiful of all the display fireworks, bursting high in the sky to give huge clusters of stars in various shapes – for example coloured Chrysanthemum or Peony shapes, sometimes with different coloured centres (or pistils), sometimes changing colours. Some contain bits which create sounds (bangs, whistles etc) and movement.

Aerial shells can be a round ball or a cylinder, with diameters from a few inches up to 10 or 12”, packed with stars and/or effects, with a charge of gunpowder (the “lifting charge”) at the bottom and a fuse leading off, all lowered down a sturdy cardboard (or sometimes heavy duty polyethylene) firing tube (the mortar tube).

Shells are described in terms of their diameter, traditionally described in inches, and typically we use shells from 2” diameter upwards.

For most displays 3”, 4”, 5” and 6” shells are more than sufficient to create first class results.

Cylinder shells can contain even more stars and materials than a round shell, depending on their length, and are used mostly for launching “effects” – whistles, crackers etc.
